Figuring out the Process: 100 Days of Code Podcast
I began my coding career back in 2014, when I was a junior in high school. I had to take a computer science class for my high school requirements and spent the summer as a participant in the Girls Who Code summer immersion program.
Yet, despite starting my journey in computer science relatively early, I wouldn’t be able to imagine myself where I am today, studying electrical and computer engineering at Cornell and having held several software engineering internship positions. For the longest time, I wanted to be an architect then a mechanical engineer, always interested in fields that interfaced with infrastructure and skyscrapers and buildings.
That’s why I enjoy sharing my story with people. I love being able to say that I didn’t expect to be where I am today, that I didn’t expect to be so involved in the world of tech and diversity in STEM. I love telling people, especially those who are younger than me, about the ups and downs of my path, the hundreds of mistakes I’ve made and lessons I’ve learned.
Recently, I was invited to speak on the 100 Days of Code podcast, hosted by Marlon Avery, about just that. I was able to explain my background, what I’m doing today, and what advice I think is critical to share with anybody aspiring to be in the world of tech, or even the professional world in general.
The podcast as a whole is geared towards coders on the newer side of the experience spectrum. Marlon himself was recently a member of this core audience, having gone through a coding bootcamp only a little over a year ago. He created this series, now on episode 17, with the following mission:
We are here to shine light on developers wins, loses, and lessons from coding daily. The goal here is to encourage people to get started, keep going, or refocus on their journey of becoming one BAD-ASS Developer!
He speaks to his own experiences, as well as those of the guests he invites on the show, and it’s a must-listen for developers in all stages of their career.
